13Who is Shiva’s founder?+
Because the idea for Shiva came to me in a dream, I do not think of myself as the founder of Shiva, but a founder for Shiva. I am here in service of a greater good: supporting determined entrepreneurs as they create incredible products that will make the world better.
My name is Lucas Marques, and I come from a small farm in rural Minas Gerais. I am married to a goddess named Isa, whom I love more than all of existence. I am dad to Foca, a wonderful English Bulldog, and Chiara, a little goddess we affectionately call “Hurricane.”
I was a partner at Méliuz from the days when our “headquarters” was my partner’s apartment, and I only stepped away from day-to-day operations two years after the IPO. I then focused on the nonprofit Programadores do Amanhã and on studying AI. Then life invited me to serve again, and here I am. I hope the idea of our community resonates with you. It will be an honor to serve you here!
With love, Lucas Marques
Okay. Got it. You want to get to know Shiva without exploring the village. That’s fine. Here’s a boring, ordinary website for you

Shiva’s community of entrepreneurs
The plaza and the market
Shiva is a community that supports determined entrepreneurs using AI to build global products.
The plaza and the market represent the center of the community, where entrepreneurs share knowledge, give and receive help, and improve the chances of success for all the community’s Stars.
Most of our conversations take place on Shiva’s Slack and in weekly online meetings. We also have a physical space in São Paulo for our entrepreneurs, next to the offices of Shiva’s main partner, the investment firm Monashees.
Our entrepreneurs also often meet for coffee or work together when traveling around the country.

Shiva Nataraja
Why Shiva?
Our community of entrepreneurs is named Shiva in honor of the Hindu god of transformation. The statue of Shiva Nataraja represents the cosmic dancer and the universe’s perpetual cycle of transformation. Nataraja rests one foot on a dwarf symbolizing the ego, which can be an entrepreneur’s greatest enemy on their journey.
The three devotees bowing at the base of the statue represent the Shiva team, including its founder, always in service of the community’s entrepreneurs.

Warriors
The entrepreneurs we look for
We look for entrepreneurs who are obsessed with creating something incredible for their customers: people hungry to build something great and memorable, who will not give up until they leave their mark on the world!
Three profiles tend to appear most often in our community:
- Underdog: Young entrepreneurs without experience, money, or a track record, but with grit, energy, and the ability to learn very quickly. Some grew up in extreme poverty, others in rural areas; some grew up without a father, while others were picked on for being too nerdy. What they share is the desire to turn experiences of hardship and limited opportunities into great products and companies.
- Blacksmith: Entrepreneurs who were always top performers at the companies and startups where they worked but had never started a business themselves. They do not know where to begin, and some are still a little afraid. But they have decided it is time to take the leap and believe that, with Shiva’s support, they can turn their knowledge into incredible products.
- Veteran: People who have already started businesses or been partners in other startups. Experienced entrepreneurs eager to use everything they have learned to build incredible companies with the power of AI.

Astronomical observatory
AI can build entire companies, not just products
Every Shiva startup is AI-native and AI-first. These sound great, but what do they mean in practice?
Almost none of them have a team. Their founders solve problems without hiring people, using AI to tackle every business challenge. Marketing, SEO, growth, finance, sales, product, security, and design: all of these functions can be built with AI.
It is not easy, and it takes a deep understanding of how to work with AI. At Shiva, we know how.

The gateway to Shiva
Shiva is open to everyone, but it takes a special kind of person
Any entrepreneur can be part of Shiva, regardless of their knowledge, experience, background, sexual orientation, race, or social circumstances.
Our selection process is extremely rigorous, ensuring that the community brings together exceptional, determined entrepreneurs: people who want to learn quickly and can do so, who find solutions to their challenges, and who never give up.
We generally prefer startups that have not yet received any investment, but we may make exceptions depending on the terms of the funding they have received.
On average, we take 30 days to respond to applications. AI is amazing, but we deliberately choose not to use it for this. We read every application with great care and attention.

Tree of knowledge
Sharing knowledge
We have just two mandatory one-hour meetings for all entrepreneurs in the community:
- Every Thursday at 8 p.m. Brasília time, we focus exclusively on AI. No philosophical debates or controversies. We discuss how to make the best use of AI — models, tools, skills, prompts, and harnesses — to build companies.
- Every Sunday at 8 p.m. Brasília time, we review the week. Each entrepreneur gives a concise update on their main progress and current challenges, keeping the rest of the community informed and ready to help.

Mandapa
Mentors
Every entrepreneur in the Shiva community has free access to a network of outstanding mentors across fields such as growth, software architecture, security, finance and accounting, SEO, AI, sales, and product, among others.
In addition to our ongoing mentor network, our team can find specialists to help with the particular challenge an entrepreneur is facing.
In Kalpa, our one-year program, entrepreneurs also receive weekly guidance from Shiva’s CEO and may connect with other entrepreneurs who have taken companies public or built major success stories.

The port and the ocean
Global from day one
At Shiva, we believe that AI makes it essential to build global products, operating in multiple languages and currencies from day one.
We only make exceptions for entrepreneurs solving enormous problems that exist exclusively in Brazil.
We have remarkable examples of global expansion within Shiva. FoxApply, for example, reached 6,000 customers in more than 50 countries in just seven months.
We want to help as many entrepreneurs as possible succeed globally.

Mountain trail
Kalpa — Shiva’s one-year program
Entrepreneurs who stand out for their business progress and their contributions to the community may be invited to apply to Kalpa, our one-year program.
In Kalpa, in addition to the benefits described in area 11 of the map, selected entrepreneurs take part in three major in-person events:
- Immersion in Atibaia: A 22-day stay at a guesthouse, with talks and workshops led by some of Brazil’s best entrepreneurs on topics such as marketing, sales, AI, finance, and daily routines. Meals, yoga classes, and accommodation are included at no cost to participants.
- Demo Day: Halfway through the program, Shiva introduces the startups to leading Brazilian entrepreneurs. Much like on The Voice, a successful entrepreneur may choose to become an advisor to their favorite startup.
- Roadshow in San Francisco: At the end of the 12 months, we take every entrepreneur in the program on a roadshow with investors in Silicon Valley.
After Kalpa: entrepreneurs can stay in the community and continue benefiting from the entire Shiva ecosystem. Once in Shiva, always Shiva!

Granary

Along with supporting the entrepreneur and their family, the stipend is designed to cover AI and marketing costs. Participants also receive free legal assistance to incorporate their company and register their trademark.
